Method
- Combine Seeds: In a large glass jar or bowl, add 2 tablespoons chia seeds, 1 tablespoon ground flaxseed, 1 tablespoon sunflower seeds, and if using, 1 teaspoon pumpkin seeds and ½ teaspoon fennel seeds.
- Add Liquid: Pour in 1½ cups of filtered water or unsweetened coconut water. Stir well to prevent clumping, especially with chia seeds.
- Soak Overnight: Cover the jar or bowl and refrigerate for at least 6–8 hours, preferably overnight. This allows the seeds to swell, soften, and release their soluble fiber.
- Add Lemon Juice: In the morning, stir in the juice from ½ a fresh lemon. This adds flavor and boosts digestion.
- Drink or Strain: Drink the mixture as-is, including the gelled seeds for maximum fiber, or strain it if you prefer a smoother tonic.
- Optional: For extra taste or detox support, add a few mint leaves or a splash of apple cider vinegar and cranberry juice.
Notes
- Consistency Tip: If the mixture thickens too much overnight, add a little extra water or coconut water in the morning and stir well.
- Texture Adjustment: Prefer a smoother texture? Blend the soaked mixture for a smoother, gel-like tonic or strain before drinking.
- Flavor Boost: Add a slice of cucumber, mint, or a dash of cinnamon to enhance taste and support digestion.
- Serving Suggestion: Best consumed on an empty stomach in the morning to promote hydration, satiety, and digestion throughout the day.
- Storage: You can make a double batch and refrigerate it in an airtight jar for up to 2 days—just stir before each use.
- Precaution: If you're new to high-fiber drinks, start with half the serving and increase gradually to avoid bloating.
